This year’s Academy of Management Annual Meeting took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. Markus Kreutzer and I presented our recent work on “Control-trust dynamics in the context of agentic algorithms” as part of and Chris Long and Simon Schafheitle’s insightful symposium on “Control and Trust Dynamics in the Age of AI and Big Data.”
It was also the first time my daughter Sophia accompanied me to an academic conference, and we managed to take a walk down memory lane together in the city I spent my exchange semester more than two decades ago…
Congrats to Max’s VSA soccer team for putting up some great games against strong teams from Idaho, Minnesota, and Texas and creating a memorable experience for both the team and the spectating families at this year’s National Cup Finals in Denver.
Congratulations to PVI Theatre for the largest number of Glamie Nominations in school history! That includes Sophia’s nominations for set design & stage craft, stage crew, and best play (Pride & Prejudice)!
After a difficult regular season, Max’s VSA travel soccer team came in second in the 2025 Virginia State Cup! Now it’s off to Nationals in Colorado!
The Walter family had a fantastic time in Italy on our last Spring Break trip together with both kids still being in high school…
Today, Sophia was accepted to The George Washington University‘s Honors College and the School of Business, where she will start her studies at the end of August 2025…
So proud of Sophia for being named a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program in her high school!
About 34,000 Commended Students nationwide–which is the top 2-3% of all US high school students–are being recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry.

Thankful to be part of this academic year’s GW Academic Leadership Academy (GWALA)–pictured here is our graduation ceremony–where we attended guest lectures and discussions and received training and coaching on topics such as decision making, conflict management, effective communication, emotional intelligence, faculty development, and staff engagement. Thanks to Vice Dean Jiawen Yang for nominating me, and to to Associate Provost Jeff Brand and Sara Melita for hosting our GWALA cohort!

Thanks to Erin’s surprise Christmas gift and Jorge R.’s hospitality, I spent a fantastic few days skiing and snowshoeing in the Colorado mountains–what a great start to the new year!
Another milestone: Sophia had her junior-year homecoming dance at St. Paul VI Catholic High School this weekend (pictures at the Air & Space Museum due to the rain). My little girl is growing up way to fast!
